Welcome to Brooks & Gao

The High Parade, 28 Streatham High Rd, London SW16 1EX, United Kingdom

General Info

Tucked along The High Parade at 28 Streatham High Rd, London SW16 1EX, Brooks & Gao feels like one of those coffee shop gems you almost want to keep to yourself. The location is easy to reach, yet it still carries a relaxed neighborhood vibe that makes you want to slow down and stay awhile. From the moment you step inside, the atmosphere strikes a balance between modern and cozy, making it just as suitable for a casual lunch as it is for a quick coffee break.

What really stands out here is how thoughtfully the menu is put together. If you’re a coffee lover, the Flat White is smooth and well-balanced, while the Matcha Latte offers a lighter, slightly earthy alternative. Pair either with one of their freshly baked Cinnamon Rolls, and you’ve got a simple but incredibly satisfying start to your day. On my visit, I couldn’t resist trying the Honey Toast-crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and just sweet enough to feel indulgent without going overboard.

For something more filling, the Egg with Aubergine dish brings a savory twist to the experience. It’s the kind of plate that works perfectly for lunch-comforting, flavorful, and well-portioned. This variety makes Brooks & Gao more than just a coffee spot; it feels like a well-rounded restaurant-style café where you can actually explore different tastes depending on your mood.

Service here is refreshingly straightforward. With reliable onsite services, you can expect a smooth experience whether you’re dining in or just stopping by. The space is also practical, offering wheelchair accessible parking, which adds to the inclusive feel of the place. Payments are easy too, with debit cards accepted, so there’s no hassle at checkout.

Looking at reviews and overall impressions, Brooks & Gao consistently leaves a positive mark. People appreciate not just the drinks and food, but also the welcoming environment. It’s a spot where you can catch up with friends, enjoy a quiet solo coffee, or even settle in for a relaxed lunch.

In a city packed with cafés, Brooks & Gao manages to stand out by keeping things simple yet well-executed-good coffee, a thoughtful menu, and a location that’s easy to love.

What customers say?

“ Had a lovely time at Brooks & Gao. My friend and I sat outside on a brisk winters day but they had heating outside so it wasn’t too cold. I had the chilli eggs, which were such an interesting flavour but absolutely delicious. The coffee was super tasty too and my friend said her matcha latte was good as well. I will definitely be back again to try there other delicious treats. ”

“ So impressed by this little deli / coffee shop! Everything looked incredible, from the cheeses to the breads to the wine to the baked goods. We tried the almond apple turnover (11/10) and the tortilla. The place was so cosy and cute, will definitely be coming back! ”

“ This is my favourite cafe/bakery in Streatham! The quality never disappoints and they have a wide variety of savoury pastries which I love. Coffee is also great quality. It's very popular and only has a few tables outside - if you do manage to get one they have heating in colder months which helps. I've been many times over the years and I'll always go back! ”

“ OMG!! This place has the most amazing cakes and pastries. Perfect, fresh and really interesting choice. It also does excellent cheese, meats etc and some hot food. I had the best brioche bun ever!!! Filled with rhubarb and custard - heavenly. Only have seating outside currently. Hope they can expand for the winter months. ”

“ A unique coffee / pastry shop, raw in its design and style and all the better for it. The coffee and buns are out of this world. We're lucky this business calls Streatham home and I urge all locals to support this place every chance you get! For what you get the prices are very reasonable. I'd encourage them to sell smart tote style bags (I'd buy one) + also to increase the visbility of their signage on their shop front. ”

“ Great coffee, the cinnamon buns are superb (even better if caught fresh out the oven), and they have a good selection of fresh deli produce. Highly recommend visiting. Only request would be that they open earlier. ”

“ Sooooo good! Always such great service and friendly, good advice on what to get. The selection of baked goods is unmatched and the cheeses are to die for. Love the variety of fresh produce. My bank balance and waistline are both worse off thanks to this gem, but it’s totally worth it. ”

“ The cutest neighborhood deli + coffee place! They always have a delish range of cakes and baked goods, and recently tried their grilled cheese with n’duja and it was just as insane as it looks. They currently only have outside seating so make sure to wrap up warm if you want to eat there but totally worth it, everything I’ve tried from there has been incredible - the carrot cake is also a personal favorite! ”
